KUMAGAYA CITY

Message from the Mayor

I’m Kiyoshi Tomioka, Mayor of Kumagaya.
On February 13th,2007, the merger of the municipalities of Kohnan with the city of Kumagaya 
resulted in the birth of an entirely new Kumagaya. Now Kumagaya is the largest city in 
northern Saitama Prefecture with a population of more than 200,000.
Kumagaya has prospered for a long time as a strategic hub of traffic, and as the metropolis of 
politics, economy, education and culture of the northern Saitama. Supported by the history and 
tradition, and blessed with superior cultural assets and tourist attractions, Kumagaya made a 
start towards a further leap.


So, to open up new age of Kumagaya, I declare four aims.

(1) To lead citizens to be challenging positively，which helps to create a cheerful and affluent city.

(2) To encourage citizens to be HEARTFUL, loving their city, local area, and people (neighbor), 
and to join to make the city planning. 

(3) To switch the municipal administration from “high cost - low satisfaction” to “low cost - high satisfaction”.

(4) To harmonize all citizens from former Kumagaya, Osato and Menuma before merger.

Based on the principle that the leading role of municipal administration is “citizen”, I am 
sincerely and passionately making efforts to realize these aims and to develop new Kumagaya 
to more functional and comfortable city than ever.
I ask for understanding and cooperation of all people.
